#OwnYourOwn: For all the asexual writers
Hey, you. Yes, you. Young ace, dreaming of becoming a writer. You have so many stories you want to tell—stories about your world, your vision, your experiences. I know it can be hard sometimes. I know it feels like people don’t want to listen to what you have to say.
But you know what? I do.
And I can guarantee you that there are so many other people out there who feel the same way. Someone out there needs your story, and only you can tell it.
This industry is hard. It’s loaded with gatekeepers, with people who might try to bar your entry or keep the story you want to tell from reaching the world. But you know what? It’s okay. Because they only have as much power as you give them—and you have the ability to give them none.
There are people out there who will try to tell you that the world doesn’t want asexual protagonists. But they’re wrong. After all, you want them, right? Aces all over the world are clamoring to be seen. And we have the power to let in the light for them. You have that power.
So don’t give up. This is the best time ever to be a writer, because you have so many options to get your words out there. You’re not limited. Traditional publisher, small press, indie publishing, Wattpad, Tumblr, right here in the comments on this blog. The list goes on. Ten years ago, they had the power to silence you, but they don’t anymore. The barriers are breaking down. You can get your voice out there, and we in the ace community are going to support you 100%.
Even when you hit a wall, don’t give up. Even when you feel like there’s no hope, don’t give up. The world wants your stories—and only you can do it.
And when you publish your book? Let the Pack know. We’ll be happy to give you a boost. 🙂
